Alaysia Janell Milburn has been identified as the 25-year-old woman who was killed in Lexington Park before police were taken on a multi-county pursuit that ended with 38-year-old Kenneth Louis Price turning a gun on himself, investigators say.
Shortly before 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 16, members of the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office were called to the 46000 block of Rosewood Drive to investigate a reported domestic dispute.
Upon arrival, deputies found Milburn suffering from a gunshot wound. She was rushed to MedStar St. Mary's Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
A 7-month-old infant was also taken from the scene to the hospital as a precaution.
Witnesses told investigators that the shooter - later identified as Price - then fled in a Hyundai Kona that was located speeding north on Route 5, prompting a pursuit that would spill into both Charles and Calvert counties.
According to the sheriff's office, as the car entered Charles County, deputies from the Charles and Calvert County Sheriff’s Offices and the Maryland State Police responded and joined the pursuit, which came to an end in the 15000 block of Prince Frederick Road in Hughesville.
A Calvert County Sheriff's deputy was able to make contact with Price's vehicle, rendering it inoperable.
Price briefly exited, then re-entered his Kia, and fired a single shot, investigators said. He was found by deputies with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Following the second shooting, Price was taken to a nearby trauma center, where he was pronounced dead before 1 p.m. on Wednesday.
"We mourn the loss of this young mother, and we hold her family in prayer," St. Mary's County Sheriff Steve Hall stated. "Today’s tragic set of circumstances brings light to the need to continue efforts on all fronts to prevent violence in domestic relationships.
"We are grateful no one else was injured during the vehicle pursuit," he continued. "The professionalism displayed by officers of the tri-county and the teamwork between our three counties was on full display, and the work was exemplary.”
